Today’s traffic: Wreck on I-485 near Rea Road

The latest traffic problem this Thursday morning in the Charlotte area is on the inner loop of Interstate 485 in southeast Mecklenburg County.

A wreck with injuries was reported about 8:50 a.m. between Rea and Johnston roads. At last check, the wreck has been cleared from the travel lanes, but there are still major slowdowns along I-485.

Another traffic trouble spot is northbound I-77 between Huntersville and Cornelius. A wreck has been reported near mile marker 27, and there are several miles of slow traffic.

One piece of good news ... southbound I-85 has recovered from a problem earlier this morning. A single-vehicle wreck on I-85 near Graham Street brought traffic to a standstill around 6:50 a.m., and there were slowdowns for nearly an hour afterward.

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 30-35 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

I-77 northbound, Lake Norman area ... Collision near mile marker 27; traffic moving 10-15 mph from mile marker 23 to the wreck scene.


I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion and a wreck with injuries between Rea and Johnston roads; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to the wreck scene.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion and a disabled vehicle near Idlewild Road; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Margaret Wallace Road to Idlewild Road.


Billy Graham Parkway ... Congestion and a wreck at Boyer Street; traffic moving 20-25 mph between West Boulevard and I-85.

U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph in each direction between I-85 and Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
