Charlotte’s weekend weather? Think summer

Summer doesn’t officially start for another two weeks, but this weekend will be custom-made for outdoor, warm-weather activities in the Charlotte area.

That means plenty of sunshine, temperatures in the middle 80s, relatively high humidity, and a scattering of afternoon thunderstorms.

Temperatures actually will be a few degrees cooler than earlier in the week, thanks to the passage late Thursday of a weak cold front. But humidity levels are forecast to increase Saturday and Sunday, as National Weather Service meteorologists say winds will veer out of the south. That will bring Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico moisture into the region.

Thunderstorms are predicted to develop in the mountains in the early afternoon hours each day, then move into the foothills and Piedmont. But the storms will be scattered, and many areas will not be hit.

Similar conditions are predicted at the beaches and mountains this weekend.

More of the same is in the forecast for next week.
