A tractor-trailer wreck shortly before 6 a.m. Friday is snarling traffic on northbound Interstate 77 at Exit 51B in Statesville -- the Interstate 40 West exit.
The right lane is closed. It could take until 8 a.m. to clear the scene and reopen the lane, the state Department of Transportation reported. Motorists should expect delays
Motorists should continue to expect delays on Friday on West Catawba Avenue at Interstate 77 Exit 28 in the Lake Norman area.
The delays are because of ongoing work to convert the exit into a diverging diamond interchange.
Use I-77 Huntersville Exit 25 as an alternate.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, meanwhile, were investigating a wreck in the 900 block of South Summit Avenue, near uptown. The wreck happened shortly after 2 a.m.
Wrecks were reported shortly before 7 a.m. at South Tryon Street and Sandy Porter Road and in the 2100 block of Thrift Road. A wreck was reported shortly after 7 a.m. in the 8000 block of Old Statesville Road.
The Charlotte Department of Transportation announced these upcoming lane and road closures:
between Interstate 77 and Forest Point Boulevard will be reduced to one westbound lane and one eastbound lane beginning at 9 a.m. Monday July 21 through Aug. 13 for construction of the Arrowood 24-inch water main replacement.
Local access will be maintained, and CATS service will be unaffected.
between West Trade and West Fourth streets will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday until 4 p.m. Aug. 8 for grading and storm water and utility installation.
Motorists on eastbound West Trade wanting to access West Fourth can use West Trade and South Graham as a detour.
Local access will be maintained, but CATS bus routes will be affected.
