No injuries were reported in a three-alarm fire that destroyed a north Charlotte auto body shop Wednesday night.
The fire was reported about 8:30 p.m. at Lopez Body Shop, in the 100 block of Atando Avenue. That is near the intersection of North Tryon Street.
Charlotte firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building when they arrived. A second alarm was sounded about 8:45 p.m. and a third alarm a short time later. It took more than 60 firefighters about 45 minutes to put out the blaze.
Charlotte fire Capt. Dennis Gist said one firefighter was thought to be missing for a few minutes, but he was found a short time later, unharmed.
Investigators said the fire started in a battery jumper box that was charging a vehicle in the shop. Damage was estimated at $115,000.
The American Red Cross was on the scene, providing assistance for firefighters. There is no word on the cause of the blaze, but the fire remains under investigation.
