Today’s traffic: Rainy commute, multiple wrecks on northbound I-85

Friday morning’s commute is off to a rainy start with numerous accidents and delays around the region.

Just before 9 a.m., accidents were reported at Providence and Queens Road, on Interstate 77 southbound at the ramp to I-85 north, and on I-77 southbound at Nations Ford Road, Exit 3.

At 8:30 a.m., wrecks were reported at West Tyvola and South Tryon; in the 5400 block of Rozzelle Ferry Road, and a possible hit-and-run at I-85 and Brookshire Boulevard.

Also, Gastonia police reported three separate accidents on I-85 northbound between exits 17 and 19 in Gastonia with traffic backed up past exit 17 just before 8:30 a.m.

All lanes of Independence Boulevard inbound were finally cleared and open around 9:30 a.m. after a tractor trailer jackknifed on the ramp to Brookshire Freeway just after 6 a.m.
