Temperatures will remain hot through Thursday as a weak high-pressure system stays in place in the Charlotte area.
But a back-door cold front will then move across the region from the north on Thursday and stall south of the area through the weekend, bringing suddenly cooler weather, according to the latest National Weather Service forecasts.
A series of low-pressure centers, meanwhile, will move east along the front, bringing the chance for showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.
Highs will reach 87 on Tuesday, 90 on Wednesday and 87 again on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

On Friday, the high is expected to fall to 80 degrees, before dropping to 78 on Saturday and 77 on Sunday.
The chance of precipitation will soar at the same time, from just 20 percent on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to 50 percent by Friday.
While Tuesday will be partly sunny, Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly sunny, according to the NWS. The clouds will come in Thursday night, and it will remain mostly cloudy through the weekend.
