Today’s traffic: Congestion slows interstates

Congestion and wrecks are slowing traffic at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday on most of the Charlotte area’s interstate highways and other major routes.

The slowdowns due to heavy traffic appear to be especially bad on southbound Interstate 77 in the Huntersville-Cornelius area, the inner loop of Interstate 485 in southeast Mecklenburg County, inbound Johnston Road, and inbound East Independence Boulevard.

Independence Boulevard has the added problem of a wreck near Briar Creek Road. But Monroe Road also is heavily congested, so it is not a good alternate route.
