Man charged in fatal Shelby shooting

A man and woman were shot Tuesday evening in Shelby, fatally wounding the man, authorities say.

Police responded to the 400 block of Crawford Street at 8:44 p.m. and found Gaffney, S.C., resident Jacques Marquette McIntyre, 29, with gunshot wounds to his left arm and the left side of his chest. Demetria Sabrina Adams, 40, was also wounded by a gunshot to her right foot.

McIntyre and Adams were taken to Cleveland Regional Medical Center for treatment. McIntyre went into surgery for his injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Adams was treated for her injuries and released.

Richas Bernard Clark, 23, was arrested in Gastonia and transported back to Shelby. Authorities said Clark had an altercation with the victims at his residence on Crawford Street leading to the gunshots and then fled the scene.

Clark was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center with no bond.
