Today’s traffic: Interstates still clogged

Congestion and slow traffic remain a problem across the Charlotte region at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

The latest problem is on southbound Interstate 85 in north Charlotte.

A collision blocked two lanes of the road near Graham Street around 9:15 a.m. Police have opened one lane, but there are considerable delays for southbound motorists.

At 9:30 a.m., traffic is heavy on southbound Interstate 77, from Davidson down to Huntersville. In addition, both the inner and outer loops of Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County remain very slow.

Backups also are being reported on inbound East Independence Boulevard, especially from Indian Trail to the Matthews area.

Improving conditions are being noted on southbound I-77 in north Charlotte. A multi-vehicle collision around 7:45 a.m. between LaSalle Street and the Brookshire Freeway caused backups of about 5 miles. The lanes were reopened by 8:15 a.m., and normal traffic flow resumed about 8:45 a.m.

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

I-85 southbound, north Charlotte ,,, Collision near Graham Street; traffic moving 15-25 mph from near Ikea Boulevard to the collision scene.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

I-485 outer loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Arrowood Road to Johnston Road.

Pineville-Matthews Road at Park Road ... Paving underway after a water line repair; moderate delays in the area. Several turning lanes are closed at the intersection.

Pineville-Matthews Road, east of Carmel Road ... Collision; moderate delays.

Alexander Road at Providence Road ... Collision; minor delays.

Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
