Traffic on I-85 northbound has come to a crawl after a vehicle reportedly overturned, blocking all but one lane between Statesville Road and Graham Street.
The wreck was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m. with no word of any serious injuries.
All lanes of Beatties Ford Road reopened just after 9 a.m. after a West Charlotte High School student was struck by a car in the 1500 block Beatties Ford Road.
The incident happened shortly before 7 a.m. and closed that portion of Beatties Ford Road, which is near another school, Northwest School of the Arts. Traffic was diverted from the area for nearly two hours.
Medic said the patient was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A spokeswoman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said the principal accompanied the student to the hospital. The student’s parents have been contacted, officials said.
This is the second West Charlotte High student to be hit along the same portion of Beatties Ford Road this week. Jennifer Crystal Tejeda was seriously injured after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing in the 1800 block shortly before noon on Monday.
Officials with N.C. Department of Transportation said road construction on most major routes will be suspended over the holiday weekend, as heavy congestion is expected, especially during peak hours.
