Bearden Birthday Bash


Romare Bearden Park, 300 South Church St. charmeck.org

Celebrate Romare Bearden Park’s first full year of programming at its Birthday Bash. The full weekend of festivities will include live music, local food, an art walk and family activities. On Saturday, Radio Disney will lead kids’ activities.

Matthews Alive

6-10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, noon-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday

John and Trade streets in historic downtown Matthews.

Admission is free; rides, games, food and drink are available for a charge. www.matthewsalive.org.Three live-music stages, arts-and-crafts area with more than 160 regional artisans, plus rides, amusements, carnival midway, games and more. The Matthews Alive Parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m.

Whitewater Center

9 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Sunday

Celebrate Labor Day with a number of races; live music from Langhorne Slim, Joe Pug and Lefty Williams; and a fireworks display. Admission is free, but there’s a $5 parking charge. There is also a fee for participating in the races. The music starts at 4 p.m. Bring chairs or a blanket.

Uptown Parade

11 a.m. Monday

The 15th annual Charlotte Labor Day Parade begins at the Hal Marshall Center, proceeding down Tryon Street, turning left onto Third Street and ending at College and Third streets.
