Today’s traffic: Congestion in the usual places

After a quiet start to the morning commute, congestion is building on area roadways at 8 a.m.

Matthews police briefly blocked the I-485 ramp at Independence Boulevard so the Hometown Heroes’ 13th annual “Head For The Hills” road tour could get underway.

On I-85 southbound at University City Boulevard, an accident on the shoulder was reported around 7:45 a.m.

Center City A stalled vehicle on the outer loop of Brookshire Freeway approaching I-77 at Graham Street reported at 7:35 a.m.

South Charlotte Wrecks reported at Lancaster Highway and Ardrey Kell Road just after 6:30 a.m. and on Johnston Road near Lancaster Highway at 6:49 a.m.


I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).


Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.


I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

I-485 outer loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion and construction-related delays.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.


I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Westinghouse Boulevard to Clanton Road. A stalled vehicle in the center lane at Arrowood Road reported at 7:30 a.m.
