Motorcyclist dies after striking trees near Tyvola Road in Charlotte

A motorcyclist died Friday after failing to stop for a stop sign at an intersection near Tyvola Road then striking two large trees, police said.

Gabriel Eduardo Molestina Arteaga, 28, was pronounced dead at 1:38 p.m. after Medic took him to Carolinas Medical Center, police said.

Molestina was driving a 2014 BMW motorcycle shortly before 1 p.m. in the 5900 block of Kenley Lane when he went through the stop sign, drove across Griffith Road and into an open grass area. The motorcycle struck the trees and Molestina landed a few feet from the motorcycle, police said.

Molestina was wearing a full-face helmet, leather riding jacket and gloves, police said.
