Today's traffic: Congestion slows Independence

Motorists using inbound East Independence Boulevard will need an extra dose of patience this Thursday morning.

Congestion is creating very slow traffic in several spots along Independence Boulevard, from Matthews to Charlotte's uptown. There are no reports of collisions at 8:05 a.m., but the average speeds are about 15 mph.

Meanwhile, congestion also is causing trouble for motorists on southbound Interstate 77, northbound I-85 in north Charlotte (due to an earlier wreck), and the inner loop of I-485 in southern Mecklenburg County.

Here is the 8 a.m. traffic update:


I-77 southbound, southern Iredell ... Congestion due to an earlier collision near Exit 31; traffic moving 15-20 mph from mile marker 40 to Lake Norman.

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ...Congestion; t5raffic moving 15-25 mph from mile marker 30 to mile marker 18.

Sam Furr Road, just east of I-77, Huntersville ... Collision; moderate delays.

Prospect Road, off Tom Hunter Road ... Collision involving a school bus; moderate delays.


Rocky River Road, near I-485 ... Collision; moderate delays.


I-485 inner loop ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Providence Road to Johnston Road.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Sharon Amity Road to uptown.


Wilkinson Boulevard at ramp to southbound I-77 ... Collision; moderate delays.
