2nd Charlotte area lightning strike victim released from Florida hospital

A 15-year-old is back home in Charlotte after he was critically injured in a lightning strike last week on a beach in Clearwater, Fla., his dad said Monday.

Cameron Poimboeuf was released from Tampa General Hospital on Sunday afternoon, Kevin Poimboeuf said. Cameron returned to Charlotte late Sunday and was “resting comfortably” at home on Monday afternoon, his dad said.

Cameron and friend Jansen Tabor, 18, of Matthews, were struck by lightning during a sudden storm on Tuesday afternoon. Tabor was released from the hospital on Thursday.

A nurse from Pennsylvania and a police officer from Illinois administered CPR to Cameron until paramedics arrived. Cameron was lying unconscious with his face in the sand when the nurse came to his aid from her 16th-floor room in a condominium complex.
