A multi-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer has brought travel to a crawl Monday morning on the inner loop of Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County.
The wreck was reported about 10:15 a.m. on I-485 near the South Tryon Street interchange. At last check, all travel lanes on I-485 were closed, and traffic was getting past the scene by using the shoulder of the road.
Authorities said one person was thrown from the wreck. Medic reported taking one person to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The Camp Green Street closure will be from Wilkinson Boulevard to Greenland Avenue, and it is scheduled through Nov. 24. The closure is needed for crews to install storm drainage pipes and water lines, as part of the Brentwood Place Storm Drainage Improvement Project.
West Boulevard closure ... A portion of West Boulevard will be closed today through Oct. 19, so crews can build box culverts and install storm drainage pipes. Work will take place in two locations, and West Boulevard will be closed essentially between I-77 and Remount Road.
A detour has been posted, using Wilkinson Boulevard, Barringer Drive and Remount Road.
Uptown road closures ... Portions of Brevard and East Eighth streets will be closed Monday morning for about eight months as part of the Levine Properties First Ward Redevelopment Project.
The Charlotte Department of Transportation said Brevard Street will be closed between East Seventh and East Ninth streets, and East Eighth Street will be closed between the light rail tracks and North Caldwell Street. The closures are scheduled to last through May, while crews rebuild the intersection at Eighth and Brevard.
Hawthorne Lane project extended ... The closure of Hawthorne Lane between Elizabeth Lane and Fifth Street near Novant Presbyterian Hospital has been extended. The road was to have reopened in late September, but Charlotte transportation officials now say the road will remain closed until late October.
North Sharon Amity Road ... Resurfacing will mean intermittent lane closures from Monday to Oct. 3 on Sharon Amity Road, between Wilora Lake Road and Cagle Avenue. Crews plan to resurface one lane at a time, so at least part of the road will be open. But motorists can expect delays.
Resurfacing work in Monroe ... Resurfacing and repair projects begin Monday on a number of streets in Monroe, city officials said. Roads will remain open, but travel lanes will be restricted, and motorists are urged to consider using alternate routes.
The list of roads: Falling Tree Lane, through the Bramblewood neighborhood; John Moore Road, from Charlotte Avenue to U.S. 74; St. James Villas neighborhood, off James Hamilton Road; Sutherland Avenue, from Walkup Avenue to Ashcraft Avenue; Williams Road Extension, from Williams Road to Commerce Drive; Varner Lane; Winchester Avenue, from Morgan Mill Road to English Street.
