A pair of midday wrecks are causing big traffic problems on two of Charlotte’s most heavily traveled highways.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report a multivehicle collision on outbound East Independence Boulevard near Bojangles’ Coliseum.
And the N.C. Highway Patrol is working to clear a multivehicle crash on southbound Interstate 77 near Woodlawn Road.
The Independence wreck has blocked outbound traffic all the way back to John Belk Freeway uptown at 12:35 p.m. Police are working to clear the collision, but motorists headed east from Charlotte should consider using an alternate route – Monroe Road, Randolph Road, Providence Road – until at least 1 p.m.
Two lanes were blocked on southbound I-77 at 12:30 p.m., according to the N.C. Department of Transportation. Cameras show traffic is snarled for about 4 miles.
