Man charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle following collision with motorcycle early Saturday

A man has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle following a collision that killed the driver of a motorcycle in the 1900 block of North Tryon Street in Charlotte early Saturday.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said that Jessie Garza, 30, was driving a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle south in the left lane on North Tryon around 6:34 a.m. According to authorities, a northbound Dodge Caravan driven by Jorge Jimenez-Feliz, 44, crossed over the double yellow lane divider and struck the motorcycle head-on. A third vehicle, which was traveling southbound behind the motorcycle, swerved to avoid the collision, but police said the driver wasn’t injured.

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. Jimenez-Feliz, who was not injured, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, authorities said. He was in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff

Police said alcohol use and speed are not factors in the crash.
