A 13-year-old Cabarrus County middle school student suffered serious injuries Friday night when he was struck by a car at Cox Mill High School following a football game, authorities said.
The incident was reported about 9:45 p.m., shortly after the end of Cox Mill High’s homecoming game against Northwest Cabarrus High School. The N.C. Highway Patrol said a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old struck the student near the school.
Authorities said there was no indication of alcohol use or excessive speed. The Highway Patrol is continuing the investigation.
The injured student, whose name has not been released, was unconscious much of Saturday, according to a tweet issued by friends of the family. However, the message added that the 13-year-old had an “uneventful night overall, and that’s a good thing.”
