A South Carolina state senator says a lack of compliance with a 2010 law requiring annual training of in-home caretakers means legislators may need to add penalties.
The Greenville News reports that just 13 percent of in-home day care operators in Greenville County have completed the two hours of annual training “Kendra’s Law” required. Republican Sen. Mike Fair of Greenville says people who keep children need to obey the rules and may need to be forced to do so. The 2010 law was named after a 6-month-old girl who was slapped by her caretaker in 2008, causing brain and retinal hemorrhaging. Associated Press
