Worker killed at plant in north Charlotte

An employee of a plant in north Charlotte was killed in an industrial accident Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The death was reported about 1 p.m. at a business in the 600 block of East Sugar Creek Road. Medic confirmed that one person died at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the N.C. Department of Labor said state officials were told by Charlotte firefighters that the death took place at Source Recycling. She said state officials were told an employee was struck by a forklift. Source Recycling did not immediately comment.

The Labor Department spokeswoman said the Occupational Safety Hazard Division will open an investigation, which is customary in the case of industrial-related deaths.
