Construction projects have forced Charlotte Area Transit System to make a number of changes to its bus routes this month.
Most of the changes were put in place Oct. 6, while another took place late last week.
Projects responsible for the changes include construction of a new bridge on North Tryon Street at Mallard Creek, work on new facilities at the Central Piedmont Community College Cato Campus in northeast Charlotte, and construction on the streetcar line in and near uptown.
The Mallard Creek bridge work forced a change in Route 11U (North Tryon), with service curtailed north of Institute Circle at the UNC Charlotte campus.
A list of changes, by route numbers:
Route 1 (Mount Holly): Outbound service to Callabridge Commons is now on Old Mount Holly Road from Rozzelles Ferry Road to Toddville Road. The route to uptown will continue serving West Todd Lane.
Route 3 (The Plaza): Construction at CPCC’s Cato campus means the school will be served externally on Grier Road. Outbound service to Cato will continue out Grier Road and Rocky River Road and then return via Harris Boulevard.
Route 11U (North Tryon): Buses no longer serve Mallard Creek Church Road, University City Boulevard, the UNCC East Deck, or Pavilion Boulevard. Route 11U outbound stops at Institute Circle, and inbound service begins at J.W. Clay Boulevard. Those trying to reach the UNCC East Deck must take Route 29.
Route 12 (South Boulevard): The first morning trip is slightly earlier on weekdays, to help riders connect with the light-rail line
Routes 14 (Providence Road) and 15 (Randolph Road): Outbound buses will run on Third Street, with inbound service on Fourth Street from Queens Road. Service on Elizabeth Avenue is discontinued. Hospitals can be accessed from bus stops on Providence and Caswell roads (for Route 14) and East Fourth Street, Hawthorne Lane, Randolph Road or Caswell Road (for Route 13). These changes are due to streetcar line work.
Route 29 (UNCC): Evening trips from University Research Park now start from IBM Drive and Hewitt Associates Drive.
Route 34 (Freedom Drive): The line now ends at Scott Futrell Drive.
Route 51 (Pineville-Matthews): Weekday service now runs every 45 minutes, rather than 60 minutes. The 30-minute trips at rush hour have been replaced by 45-minute service, too. Saturday service also is now every 45 minutes. The changes, which include two new trips to the CPCC Levine Campus, are designed to deal with increased demand.
Route 55 (Westinghouse): Express trips between Westlake Drive and Sharon Road West are discontinued.
