Charlotte Area Transit System has restored several stops on a popular bus route that had been eliminated because of a bridge replacement on North Tryon Street.
CATS officials said they have added a loop to the Route 11 (North Tryon) line that restores service along Mallard Creek Church Road. The loop was added Friday, four days after Route 11 service was shortened.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge on North Tryon Street over Mallard Creek, and CATS had decided to end service at the UNC Charlotte campus entrance on North Tryon. But in response to requests from the public and city officials, the loop was added.
Larry Kopf of CATS said Route 11 now runs north on North Tryon Street to Mallard Creek Church Road, turns right on Mallard Creek Church Road, right on University City Boulevard, then right on W.T. Harris Boulevard back to North Tryon Street.
That means a number of bus stops, including those on Mallard Creek Church Road and University Boulevard near UNCC, have been restored.
