A small fire that caused Alexander Graham Middle School to be evacuated late Thursday morning was intentionally set, officials with the Charlotte Fire Department say.
The middle school – off Colony Road and Runnymeade Lane – was being evacuated when the department responded to fire alarms around 11:30 a.m., officials said Friday. The small fire had already been extinguished but caused roughly $5,000 in damage.
No injuries were reported.
This is the second intentionally-set fire in a CMS building reported in the past two weeks. The CFD Investigation Task Force is working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to resolve the issue, officials said.
A small, intentional fire at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology caused the school to be evacuated and roughly $1,000 in damage on Nov. 12, officials said.
Fire officials said Friday that they do not believe the incidents are related.
