Wrecks and disabled vehicles combined to create challenging travel conditions Saturday afternoon for Charlotte-area motorists on Interstates 77 and 485.
The biggest headache was on southbound I-77, following a wreck shortly before 11:45 a.m. near Sunset Road. Two lanes were blocked, and congestion continued until all lanes were reopened around 3:15 p.m.
Backups stretched from the wreck scene to Exit 23 in Huntersville, with traffic moving only 10 to 15 mph.
A disabled vehicle caused slow traffic about the same time on the outer loop of I-485 in southeast Charlotte. Slowdowns were reported between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. between South Boulevard and Johnston Road. The vehicle was moved around mid-afternoon, and conditions improved.
