Today’s traffic: Wreck slows I-77 in York

The slowest traffic in the Charlotte region at 8:25 a.m. Monday is on northbound Interstate 77 in York County.

A collision near Carowinds Boulevard is causing 5 miles of slow traffic, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation. Average speeds in that area are 10 to 20 mph.

Some streets are wet this morning, and another problem is the threat posed by leaves that were blown down during Sunday evening’s storms. The leaves are creating slippery conditions on secondary streets.

An earlier collision on the ramp from southbound I-77 to Clanton Road has been cleared.

Orr Road ... Orr Road will be closed at North Tryon Street at 9 a.m. today and will reopen sometime Wednesday. The closure is needed so crews can move water lines for the light rail extension route. The detour will be Old Concord Road and North Tryon Street.



I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

University City Boulevard at Mallard Creek Church Road ... Collision; moderate delays.

Craighead Road at Davidson Street ... Disabled vehicle; minor delays.


Randolph Road at Billingsley Road ... Disabled vehicle; minor delays.

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion and a collision on the ramp to the John Belk Freeway; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.


Steele Creek Road at Steele Oaks Drive ... Collision with injuries; minor delays.


Yorkmont Road near Oak Lake Boulevard ... Collision; minor delays.

Little Rock Road at Keeter Drive ... Collision; minor delays.

Union County

U.S. 74 inbound, Indian Trail and Stallings ... Congestion from Rocky River Road to I-485; traffic moving 10-20 mph.
