Board tosses out complaint by Lincoln County sheriff’s candidate

The Lincoln County Board of Elections on Monday dismissed a protest petition filed by an unsuccessful write-in candidate for sheriff over the Nov. 4 general election .

Anthony Huss complained that supporters of Sheriff David Carpenter tried to block him from entering a polling site and results of the election should be invalidated.

The board found no evidence of an elections violation but told Huss he can appeal to the N.C. Board of Elections in Raleigh, Lincoln County elections coordinator Jeffery Davis said.

Carpenter was reelected with 19,894 votes, or 97.99 percent of all ballots cast. Huss received 94 votes, or 0.46 percent of all votes cast.
