Charlotte sports talk station WFNZ-AM will host its annual holiday food drive, Street Turkeys, on Wednesday.
The station will feature 13 hours of live programming from the WFNZ Doghouse, at Mint and Morehead streets, where the drive will take place. The Charlotte Hornets will partner with WFNZ in the drive.
In its 12 years, Street Turkeys has collected thousands of pounds of food, which is distributed by Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry.
“Donations this year are more crucial than ever,” WFNZ Operations Manager-Program Director D.J. Stout said.
Charlotte Hornets mascot Hugo and the Honeybees cheerleaders will be at the WFNZ Doghouse for the event, along with volunteers from Food Lion, which is donating 750 turkeys this year.
The public is invited to bring food items or financial donations to the Doghouse during the drive.
Live programming will feature “The Mac Attack” (6-10 a.m.), “The Call Up” (10 a.m.-noon), “Bustin’ Loose” (noon-3 p.m.), and “Prime Time” (3-7 p.m.).
