Mooresville to consider awarding $4.3 million contract to overhaul golf course

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners on Monday will consider awarding a $4.3 million contract to a Georgia-based golf course reconstruction company to overhaul the town-owned Mooresville Golf Course.

Southeastern Golf Inc. has built or rebuilt dozens of golf courses over several decades.

Recent projects include the Atlanta Athletic Club; the South Ocean Club in Nassau, Bahamas; the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.; Deer Creek Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.; and Forrest Hills Golf Club in Moscow, Russia.

Designed by Pinehurst No. 2 innovator Donald Ross, the course’s front nine opened in 1949. The back nine was added in 1977.

The eight-month project will include new irrigation, a new driving range/practice area and a complete rework of all holes.

Commissioners will consider a budget amendment to appropriate money from the town’s fund balance instead of general obligation bonds for the project. The fund balance money will be restored once 2015 recreation general obligation bonds are issued and the proceeds received, town officials said.

Monday’s meeting is 6:30 p.m. at Mooresville Town Hall, 413 N. Main St.
