Wreck closes I-485 outer loop near I-77

One person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving an overturned car closed all southbound lanes on Interstate 485 Tuesday morning.

Fire officials said they dispatched 12 firefighters to the crash, reported at the I-485 interchange with I-77 near exit 67.

State highway officials are detouring motorists to I-77 southbound, then to Westinghouse Boulevard at exit 1 before turning left onto Westinghouse and then back onto the I-485 outer loop.

It’s unclear what caused the accident. Medic 911 said two people involved in the crash were taken to Carolinas Medical Center. One of them suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the other suffered life-threatening injuries.
