Gastonia woman dies of injuries in Dec. 2 fire

An 85-year-old woman who was critically injured in a fire at her Gastonia home Nov. 25 has died at Wake Forest Baptist Health Burn Center in Winston-Salem, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Firefighters rescued an unconscious Lillian Maples by bringing her out a window of the single-story home in the 1300 block of Jay Avenue. They immediately administered life support, Gastonia Fire Inspector Chris Stowe said.

Gaston Emergency Medical Services took Maples to Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was then taken by air ambulance to the Wake Forest Baptist Health Burn Center.
