Man arrested after carjacking 2 vehicles, leading police on 3-county chase

One person was arrested after carjacking two separate vehicles and leading officers on a three-county chase on Wednesday.

The incident began on I-85 near mile marker 19 in Gaston County when officials say an altercation occurred in a Jeep SUV. The driver of that vehicle pulled over and got out. The passenger then crawled over to the driver's seat and drove away heading southbound.

Before he could get too far, however, he struck a bus and a Honda Civic, causing the Civic to spin out. The original driver then caught back up to the vehicle and another altercation occurred before the carjacker pulled out a knife and took the Honda Civic he had just hit.

He then continued heading south into Cleveland County, where Shelby Police officers joined the pursuit. Officials say the man made it to Cherokee County before wrecking the vehicle and being taken into custody.

His name and charges have not been released.
