A dog's Christmas wish: a home after spending 10 years living in kennel

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - It's a search a decade in the making, that will hopefully end this Christmas. 11-year old Tina P has been living in a Charlotte kennel for nearly 4,000 days, do the math and that's more than ten years .

Jennifer Hunt is a volunteer with the American Pit Bull Foundation, the organization that has been working to find Tina a family to call her own.

"She makes me smile, she's the best part of my week," Hunt said.

Hunt tells WBTV the Pit Bull mix was abandoned ten years ago. Since then, she's been living at the Granbar Kennel in Charlotte.

"The owner of the kennel at the time, understood the dangers of her ending up in a bad home and thought she was safer to be here because there were no Pit Bull rescues at the time," Hunt said.

About a year ago, the American Pit Bull Foundation stepped in, starting a Facebook page, determined to find sweet Tina a home. Despite five thousand page likes, Tina is still searching.

"It's a sad situation, she hasn't had a family for all these years. She's very much loved by the kennel staff here but we would love to see her in a home for Christmas," Hunt said.

Tina may be eleven, but Hunt says she still has a lot of love to give.

"She's like a puppy in an old lady's body. She's very healthy with a lot of love to give and would be wonderful in an active home," Hunt said.

But Tina isn't alone in her search. In the kennel next door lives three year old Bentley. He was abandoned three years ago, and is looking for a family too.

"All he really wants in life is someone to love him. To be able to lay on your couch and snuggle and watch football and eat chips with you," Heather Vance with the American Pit Bull Foundation said.

They're just two dogs, with one burning desire, to prove it's never too late to find love.

"She's touched my heart and I'm going to fight for her till the end," Hunt said.

Tina P is looking for a home with no other animals, while Bentley is great with other dogs.
