Fire breaks out at Earl Tindol Ford in Gastonia

Gastonia firefighters reported quickly containing a fire that broke out Thursday morning in the Earl Tindol Ford body shop on Glenwood Drive.

The fire burned through a skylight in the ceiling of the 20,000-square-foot metal building, which helped firefighters because that made for a natural ventilation of the fire, Gastonia Fire Department spokesman Jim Landis said.

Arriving firefighters discovered flames in the rear of the building.

Firefighters had to work around 25 to 30 automobiles in the repair shop, but they quickly contained the fire to the rear of the building, Landis said. The cause wasn’t immediately known, he said.

No injuries were reported.
