Fire officials: Blaze at Wal-Mart construction site intentionally set

Fire officials are investigating a blaze they say was intentionally set at a Wal-Mart construction trailer in Charlotte late Sunday.

Crews were called to a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market construction site on Albemarle Road at about 11:30 p.m. When they arrived, crews faced heavy smoke and fire from a single-story construction trailer, said Charlotte Fire Capt. Jackie Gilmore.

It took 23 firefighters less than 10 minutes to extinguish the flames, he said.

No injuries were reported, and the fire did not affect any nearby buildings or structures, he said.

Officials estimate the flames caused at least $15,000 worth of damage.

A fire department investigations task force determined the fire was set and began an investigation.
