Pinpointing trouble spots on your morning commute

Traffic was flowing slowly toward the center of Charlotte in all the usual places on Tuesday morning.

Movement was slow on Interstate 77 South from Langtree Road in Iredell County all the way down to Exit 23 at Gilead Road. Then between Exit 13 (I-85) and Exit 12 (Lasalle Street), an accident that happened just after 7 a.m. was causing delays. It was also typically slow on I-77 South between exits 13 and 11.

North of the city, traffic also was affected by an accident on West Mallard Creek Church Road at I-85, and by congestion on I-85 between exits 48 and 41.

In west Charlotte, traffic was slow on I-85 North between Exit 27 (N.C. 273) and Exit 33 (Billy Graham Parkway), and on I-485 Outer Loop between I-85 and Wilkinson Boulevard due to an accident.

To the south, significant congestion was built up on I-77 North between Exit 90 (Carowinds Boulevard) and Exit 6 (Woodlawn Road).

Closer in, trouble spots included U.S. 74 West between Albemarle Road and Hawthorne Lane, and on N.C. 27 West at Independence Boulevard. Traffic also was stop-and-go on Independence Boulevard westbound between Idlewild Road and I-277 due to earlier accidents.

Several other accidents also were causing delays around the Charlotte area on Tuesday morning.

Police reported wrecks on North Tryon Street at University City Boulevard; Monroe Road west of North Sharon Amity Road; Sardis Road North at East Independence Boulevard; on Old Providence Road at Providence Road; on Little Rock Road north of I-85; on Briar Creek Road at Central Avenue; and on Arrowood Road at I-77.

In Huntersville, accidents were reported on Sam Furr Road at Old Statesville Road and on Ramah Church Road at Hiwassee Road.

Meanwhile, heading north on I-77 away from the city was also problematic. Things were slow between Exit 13 (I-85) and Exit 16 (Sunset Road) due to a vehicle fire, and high volume had cars stacking up between Exit 23 (Gilead Road) and Exit 25 (N.C. 73).
