Rescue crews confirmed Thursday that they recovered the body of a fisherman they believe drowned in a Union County lake last week.
The news came just before 4:30 p.m., six days after 30-year-old Josh Chapman reportedly went into the water.
Wednesday afternoon, family members confirmed that the fisherman was Chapman. A 911 call came in just before 1 p.m. on Friday from the Cane Creek Park area in Waxhaw after a canoe carrying a couple capsized.
The wife, Ryan Chapman, said she was fishing with her husband, Josh, when they both fell in the water, which officials say was extremely cold and around ten feet deep.

Officials say Ryan Chapman was able to make it to shore and call 911. Josh never resurfaced.
Rescue crews and dive teams searched for Chapman in the lake for nearly seven hours on Friday and continued their search efforts over the weekend.
Crews searched for hours on Monday and Tuesday after the heavy rain stopped. The man was still not found.
The Charlotte Fire Department contributed sonar equipment, which uses sound waves to detect objects under water, to be used in Tuesday's search.
