Today’s traffic: Dense fog starting to lift

Lingering fog and some icy conditions persist as the Friday morning commute continues, but forecasters say the dense fog advisory will lift – and conditions should clear – starting around 9 a.m.

On area interstates, and the left lane of Interstate 77 northbound just after the Exit 28 bridge is blocked after a multi-vehicle wreck just after 9 a.m.

On city roadways, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were working at least nine wrecks on city roadways, the most recent in the 2500 block of North Tryon Street. A disabled vehicle was also reported on Providence Road at Fairview Road around 9:10 a.m.

A number of accidents were reported in the Lake Norman area this morning, with wrecks on Shearer Road, as well as North Main Street at Ridge Road, in Davidson.

In Huntersville, icy conditions on the Verheoff Drive bridge over Statesville Road contributed to an overturned vehicle just after 8 a.m.

Police in Huntersville also worked to clear road blockage from the 12000 block of Old Statesville Road and a disabled vehicle reported just after 7 a.m. on Gilead Road at Ranson Road.

Though Charlotte-area temperatures are in the upper 30s this morning, Rowan County officials were reporting icy conditions on a number of roadways, particularly along Statesville Boulevard.

Around 7:30 a.m., drivers in East Lincoln County were also reporting ice and slick conditions on area overpasses.

On Saturday morning in Charlotte, a number of uptown streets will close briefly during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday parade. Organizers expect roughly 10,000 participants at the event, which starts at 11 a.m. at Ninth and Tryon Streets. The parade route will head south on Tryon and will end at Stonewall Street.

North

East

Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Independence Boulevard.

Southeast

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Sharon Amity Road to uptown.

South

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
