Piedmont Natural Gas said Friday it has asked for approval to reduce its rates for customers in the Carolinas for a second consecutive month.
If utilities commissions in both states approve, Piedmont’s rates would go down Feb. 1. The new rates would be 3 percent lower than January rates and about 8 percent lower than at the start of winter.
Residential customers would save $10 to $15 over the remaining winter months of February and March, Piedmont said. The rate reductions reflect a continuing drop in the wholesale cost of natural gas. Bruce Henderson
