Salisbury police officer exchanges gunfire with suspect early Saturday; no injuries reported

Authorities are looking for a man they say exchanged gunfire with a Salisbury police officer early Saturday.

An officer was dispatched to the 800 block of West Bank Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. following reports of multiple gunshots in the area, Salisbury police said.

When the officer arrived, he heard shots being fired from behind 815 West Bank St., and while attempting to take cover, someone shot at him, police said.

The officer returned fire, but police said he wasn’t injured. Evidence at the scene suggested he didn’t strike the suspect, who escaped on foot.

During a search of 815 West Bank St., police and arrested Edward Lamont Cathcart, 21, of 1324 A West Horah St., Salisbury, for resisting arrest, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the shooting incident should call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
