MLK events throughout the Charlotte region

Events across the Charlotte region will honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday. Among them:

• MLK Prayer Breakfast, NASCAR Hall of Fame Crown Ballroom, 400 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., 8 a.m. The keynote speaker is former NAACP President Ben Jealous.

• MLK Teen Summit, McCrorey Family YMCA, 3801 Beatties Ford Road, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Teens will discuss social justice, higher education and civic engagement.

• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Celebration, Levine Museum of the New South, 200 E. Seventh St., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Films, performances, children’s activities and exhibits honor King’s life and pursuit of civil and human rights. Admission is free, but tickets will be issued hourly.

• MLK Day of Service, Central Piedmont Community College. Participating students are randomly assigned to groups for a service project to be completed by the end of the day. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Student Commons area of the Overcash Academic and Performing Arts Center on Central Campus, 1206 Elizabeth Ave.

• MLK Day 2015 at the Harvey B. Gantt Center, 551 S.Tryon St., all day. Films, hands-on workshops and performances will reflect on King’s legacy. Free.
