4 escape fire in Charlotte home

Four people escaped a fire that started in the kitchen of a home near Charlotte's South End on Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in the 400 block of Benjamin Street near South Boulevard. A man, woman and two children escaped, and two of the people were evaluated by Medic.

It took 22 firefighters around 11 minutes to get the fire under control.

Fire investigators say smoke damage was contained to the front of the home and caused around $20,000 worth of damage.
