Flood advisory issued for parts of Catawba and Lincoln counties

A flood advisory has been issued until 8:30 p.m. for south-central Catawba County and northwestern Lincoln County,

Heavy rain from a series of thunderstorms prompted the advisory by the National Weather Service in Greer, S.C.

At least 2 to 2.5 inches of rain had fallen in just an hour early Saturday evening, with more rain expected, the Weather Service reported.

Areas at risk of flooding included Maiden and Vale.

Drivers who see flooding ahead should turn around. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, the Weather Service said.

Charlotte has a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday night, mainly before 9 p.m.
