Victim fires back, wounds one of three suspects during attempted robbery

An armed would-be robber was shot in northwest Charlotte early Tuesday, according to the Observer’s news partner WBTV.

The shooting occurred when three people allegedly attempted to rob another man in the 100 block of Mellwood Drive, WBTV reported.

The victim was armed and reportedly fired back, hitting one of the robbers, who then drove to the 5200 block of Garden Trace Court and called police. The wounded suspect told offers he was shot during an attempted robbery, police told WBTV.

Medic took the suspect to Carolinas Medical Center with a minor injury from the gunshot wound.

Police say the victim knew at least some of the would-be robbers, and the act was not random.
