Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested and charged a Charlotte couple with murder in the death of a child found unresponsive last month on Farm Pond Lane in east Charlotte. The boy was later pronounced dead.
Charged in the case are Patrick Jamal Chambers, 28, and Tenisha Renea Wells, 24. Wells was identified by homicide detectives as the mother of the boy, who was about 2 years old. His name was not released.
Chambers is shown in Mecklenburg County jail records as living in Rock Hill. He was arrested in April for charges of burglary, larceny, resisting arrest, false imprisonment, assault on a female and battery of an unborn child.
The two were arrested by police without incident Tuesday morning and later transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, where they were charged with murder, officials said.
On July 25 officers responded to a call about a child found unresponsive at the 4900 block of Farm Pond Lane. Medic took the child to Novant Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests were made at the time, because several adults were in a position to provide care for the child, officials said.
Detectives determined the boy was physically assaulted, which led to his death.
