Nathan Greene, 8, casts his line into the water at the Allen Fishing Access pier on Lake Wylie in Belmont on Sunday, hoping to catch bluegill with his grandfather Bill Buff, 71. Nathan started fishing at the age of 6, with lessons from Buff.
“It’s fun fishing with my grandad,” said Nathan. Nathan and Buff, both of Mount Holly, use night crawlers for bait and said they release the fish they catch. The area where they were fishing is called the “hot hole” by area fisherman because of the warm water dispensed into Lake Wylie from the nearby Duke Energy’s Allen Steam Plant. Robert Lahser
