Plane carrying 64 people lands in Charlotte after smoke detected in craft

An American Eagle headed out of Kentucky landed at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Friday morning after airport officials received reports of possible smoke in the aircraft, reports the Observer’s news partner WBTV.

Katie Cody with American Airlines says American Eagle flight 5490 carried 64 passengers and landed safely around 8:11 a.m.

“This was a CRJ 900 arriving from Louisville Kentucky (SDF),” Cody told WBTV. The crew reported smoke in the flight deck, but the fire department found no smoke or fire after the plane landed, Cody says.

The passengers were deplaned on the tarmac and brought by bus to the terminal, WBTV reports.
