About 3,000 firefighters of the more than 53,000 from across North Carolina came to the Charlotte Convention Center to attend the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo on Friday. The Charlotte Fire Department and a number of others displayed trucks while vendors sold everything from turn out gear, to flashing truck lights to fire hose retrieval systems. The expo continues on Saturday from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Also on Saturday firefighters will participate in the Sixth Annual Charlotte Memorial Stair Climb in the Duke Energy Center in remembrance of all the fire and rescue personnel that perished in the attacks on 9/11.
