Charlotte man charged with murder in argument that led to stabbing

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have charged James Edward Leaks, 51, of Charlotte with the fatal stabbing of Darrell Bernard Cureton in north Charlotte on Tuesday.

Cureton, 49, was killed about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of Plymouth Street, during an argument with someone he knew, police initially reported. He was later pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.

During the investigation, Leaks was voluntarily transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed and charged with murder. He is in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where he will remain, police said.
