Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man with murder after shots were fired into a car early Monday, leaving one woman dead and a passenger wounded.
Initial information gathered on the scene indicates that this was not a random act of violence and not an act of road rage, officials initially said.
Later Monday, police charged Jalen Marquise Anderson, 23, with murder, attempted murder and firing into occupied property inflicting serious injury.
Anderson “was in a personal relationship with both female victims,” a police statement said. The dead woman was Mary Elaine Tarr, 20. Police did not release the name of the injured woman.

Police said they were called to the intersection of Baybrook Lane and Pineville-Matthews Road at 2:55 a.m. Monday and found a single-vehicle wreck. Inside were two women, both with gunshot wounds.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic. The second woman was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.
